After you've got your radon test results, you may wish to take action to reduce the radon levels in your home. We come out to do a free site visit. This is an important first step, as we put a great emphasis on making sure we have all the information we need to give you an accurate price.  We will have a look and then walk you through all of the necessary steps to reduce the radon levels in your home. We even design radon rough-ins for new residential construction. No two residential properties are the same, but we have the knowledge and consulting experience to handle even complex or difficult to mitigate situations. Read on to learn about our six steps of residential radon mitigation service, from receiving the first call for a site visit to conducting system review and diagnostics and ensuring customer satisfaction.

steps to radon reduction

1. Call or Email for a Site Visit

  • One of our certified radon mitigation professionals visits your home or workplace to assess what work needs to be done to reduce your radon to a safer level.

  • We explain the process thoroughly and answer all your questions.

  • You'll receive a free, no-obligation quote within 2 business days.

3. System Review and Diagnostics

  • T​​he day begins by reviewing the work plan with you and answering your questions.

  •  

  • We cover the floors where we will be walking and working.

  • Diagnostics or scientific measurements are taken to determine appropriate fan sizing for maximum energy efficiency as well as radon reduction.​​​

5. Finalizing the System

  • We take detailed notes of the system design.

  • We explain the entire installation to you and install a follow-up Alpha Track tester.

  • We typically guarantee to reduce your radon levels to below 75 bq/m3 or lower, which will be confirmed with the long term test included with the system. This test is analyzed by an independent lab and is an important document should you decide to sell your home.

  • You're also given the option of a digital loaner to conduct an interim 2-week test. On a digital monitor, you'll see your reduction within 24-48 hours.

2. Book a Date

  • ​​Your installation is scheduled at your earliest convenience.

  • You'll receive an informative email in advance so you know what to expect, including which areas may need clearing to safeguard your belongings.

4. Installation and Sealing

  • Using the information from the diagnostics in Part 1, we proceed with the installation.

  • Necessary holes are cored with a wet saw to eliminate the risk of toxic concrete dust.

  • The pipe and fan are installed and exhausted to the outside.

  • Accessible cracks, holes and gaps in the floor are sealed to enhance system performance. A manometer is installed, which is an indicator that the system is working.

  • Follow -up diagnostic measurements are taken to ensure the system is working as designed.

6.  Ensuring Satisfaction

  • Before we leave, we clean the work areas thoroughly and take away all garbage.

  • We discuss the timing for the long term test, which verifies we have achieved our guarantee of 100 bq/m3 or lower. The test must include some winter months and can be left from 91 to 365 days.

  • We remain available to you if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Most mitigation systems can be installed in one day.​​
